Play Ball? School Inches Closer to Return to Activities

A letter to the Student-Athletes and Parents of Student-Athletes,

I am excited to announce that the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Activities Association have released guidelines for student-athletes and coaches to return to our facilities beginning June 1st. Our athletic department has worked very hard to develop some district-specific guidelines and state guidelines to ensure we have a safe and effective return to activities. You can access the AAA Covid-19 landing page at https://www.aractivities.org/covid19. There you will see the ADH guidelines, the screening process that will be utilized each day, and the acclimatization guidelines for return to activity. The Bald Knob School District guidelines and sport-specific guidelines will be shared with you by your coach. This opportunity is not mandatory. If you are uncomfortable as an athlete or as the parent of an athlete with the return to activity, please notify your child's coach. We want those who are ready to resume conditioning and doing sports-specific workouts with their coaches to have that opportunity.

During this phased-in approach, only student-athletes and coaches are allowed in the facilities during workouts. Parents, if you are dropping off and picking up your student-athlete for their workout, we will be sure to communicate the proper times for drop off and pick up, or you can wait in your vehicle in the parking lot. If you remain in the parking areas, please observe all social distancing guidelines recommended by the State of Arkansas. If you have questions or concerns about the return to activity, please contact your child's coach or me. Coaches' emails can be found on the district website at baldknobschools.org. On our main page, click "menu" and "staff."

We are currently working with our Unity Health partners to reschedule physicals. All current physicals are valid for up to 15 months. Our coaches will be sharing information regarding physicals with you as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this process. As always, our ultimate goal is for the health and safety of our students and staff.

Thank you,

Sarah Shannon
