Bald Knob Public Schools would like to clarify some recent confusion regarding access to the storm shelter located at the elementary. This evening, the storm shelter at the elementary will be open and accessible to the public regardless of where a tornado warning is issued. We understand the concern about limited warning time and are currently working with county and state officials to adjust the system because the system is currently programmed to unlock automatically only when a warning is issued within the city limits of Bald Knob. Our goal is to expand the shelter access radius so the doors will automatically unlock when a tornado warning is issued within a certain number of miles from Bald Knob. However, at this time, the system is still limited to warnings within city limits, and the school district does not have the ability to make those changes. We also want to clarify that neither the City of Bald Knob nor school personnel are responsible for unlocking the shelter doors during a storm. The district utilizes an automated service designed to handle that process so that school staff can focus on keeping themselves and their families safe during severe weather events. We are working closely with the appropriate agencies to improve this system and will notify the community as soon as any updates are made. In the meantime, we want to reassure everyone that we will make sure the shelter doors will be unlocked this evening for your safety and peace of mind. Thank you for your understanding. — Bald Knob Public Schools

We want our parents and community to have clear information about our school calendar, as there has been discussion about a 4-Day School Week. Bald Knob Public Schools will not transition to a 4-Day School Week next year due to uncertainty surrounding proposed state legislation and approval requirements. While there was strong support for the idea, these challenges, along with the need for long-term stability, make it best for our students, staff, and families to maintain a more traditional schedule. We may revisit the possibility in the future, but it will not impact the upcoming school year. Faculty, staff, and the school board will vote on the school calendar later this month. Thank you for your input throughout this process.
